Youth Skill competition at VTC

The Hong Kong Youth Skills Competition is a multi-disciplinary event held for the first time in 1996 and thereafter every other year, the Western Cookery competition is jointly organized by the Vocational Training Council and the Hospitality Industry Training and Development Centre (HITDC).

The objectives of the Hong Kong Youth Skills Competition are:

  • to enhance the social stature of skilled workers
  • to encourage young people to embark on a career in industry and commerce
  • to encourage young people to excel in their respective trades or occupations

The Pre-competition of the Western Cookery was held on the 14th June with 14 competitors and 9 of them qualified to go to the final, which was held on the 28th and 29th June 2006 followed by an official kick-off party of the Hong Kong's Youth Skills Competition.

The winners of the Western Culinary Competition this year are as follow:

They will participate in the November 2006 4th Guangzhou/ Hong Kong/ Macau Youth Skills Competition and the winner will represent Hong Kong in the 39th WorldSkills in Japan in November 2007.

Competitors had to compose a 4 course menu with Ingredients from a Mystery Box and prepare 6 portions of each dish in the following categories.

  • First Course - Cold Seafood Combination
  • Second Course - Clear Soup
  • Hot Main Course - Chicken - Two Cooking Methods
  • Dessert - Cold and Hot Variation

A team of 8 judges comprising of industry members selected the winners.
