The Hong Kong Young Chefs Club is a fact

On March 21st at 5:00pm, the Hong Kong Young Chefs Club was officially born.  It was a fairly inauspicious proceeding.  Executive Chef Rudolf Muller of Disney Hong Kong and I went to the Wanchai Police Station to register our new "baby" under the Societies Ordinance.  We were directed (and mis-directed) around various floors and offices until we got to where we needed to be.  The process was short and simple, but moving to me personally.

We are starting something Grand, a club that will hopefully outlast us all.  There are numerous details to attend to, such as finding sponsors, organizing our calendar of events, having our first meeting, and of course, getting some members!  I have also received offers from some who would like to help us on the committee, which is gratifying.  The desire to build up the young chefs of Hong Kong is still alive in our community!

We have a lot of work to do before Hofex and our "unveiling".  Michelle Cheung has been working tirelessly with designers to finalize our logo which will be confirmed shortly.  Tony Lui met with the Vice President of the HKCA Angus Cheng recently to discuss how to set up our Young Chefs Club treasury.  Boris Leung, with the enthusiastic support of the HITDC has been spreading the message about us directly to our future members.

There are others supporting us from within the HKCA as well.  Perry Yuen and Dominique Grandjean, our sage mentors who keep us on the right path; Hans Rudi Nussbaumer at HITDC whose invaluable backing we could not do without; Marco Veringa and of course the new President of the HKCA, Rudolf Muller.  Your support is much appreciated.

I am also pleased to announce the addition of our fifth committee member, Ken Chow of IVE.  Chef Chow was one of my instructors at what was then VTC, and it was he who originally approached many of us to come help with the Young Chefs Club.  His experience and passion for this club will be a tremendous asset to us.

I believe we are on the right track, with the right people.  The Young Chefs of Hong Kong await...
