Presidents Message for the Celebration of the 2nd International Chefs Day Hong Chi Charity Event 20. October 2005

Dear Friends, Colleagues and Members,

It is my pleasure to announce that we will celebrate the 2nd. International Chefs Day here in Hong Kong with an organized Charity Event, benefiting the Hong Chi Association of Hong Kong.

Hong Chi Association is dedicated to serve people and families with handicap needs, so that they are encouraged and helped to participate fully in family and community life.

Apart from paying tribute to the talents and skills of chefs all over the world, International Chefs Day is more than a special day to celebrate the ingenuity of the profession; it is indeed a day for these industry leaders and food lovers to celebrate the appreciation of food through goodwill and we, here in Hong Kong, are eager to participate, support and give back to the society as much as we can.

I am delighted to see a vast and spontaneous response from all walks of chefs, sponsors, press, students and members alike. It shows that just in a matter of 48 hours we are able to bring together an event, which will benefit so many peoples whom are in need.

On behalf of the HKCA, I wish the Hong Chi Association and its Members all the best, for the participating chefs, sponsors, press and students our sincerely thanks and appreciation for you support and goodwill.

Happy Chef's Day

Perry Yuen

Coming together to share and appreciate food is an activity enjoyed by everybody around the world. To celebrate the 2nd International Chefs Day, the Hong Kong Chefs Association is proud to have organized a Charity Event for the Hong Chi Association.

Everyone, including the disabled, enjoy good food. So what better way to spread goodwill than to do what we do best — prepare and share good food, laughter and fun with students of the Hong Chi Association! Hong Chi Association is dedicated to helping those with disabilities learn to be independent and they provide vocational training to help students learn skills to support themselves. They perform a needed and important service to the community.

So early on International Chefs Day, we traveled in a convoy of coaches and delivery lorries to the Hong Chi Pinehill Advance Training Centre in Tai Po, New Territories to serve 1,000 intellectually and physically disabled students. Along with fine cuisine, the students and staff were entertained by performers from a local television station. The result was a feast befitting of International Chefs Day. There were trays of salads, soups, hot dishes, desserts and beverages, all donated by generous sponsors. No one was left out. Those remaining in their rooms received special lunch packages in nicely designed boxes.

Although we had to serve two rounds of service in a short time, everyone had an enjoyable time. We were so touched that some students recognize and remember us from last year's event. By 3:30 pm, we had finished and were on our way back to the city. Was it a worthwhile event? The smiles of the students say it all and as we ride back, we are already thinking about next year.
